SMD-Sensor for measurement of relative humidity

Specially for sensor elements meant for household appliances or automotive applications, the sensor must guarantee the specified accuracy without re-calibration for the entire product lifecyle of normally at least 10 years. Despite this high expectation, the price structure in the target market is so restrictive that only automation is the solution to equip SMD sensors with clearly reduced chip surface for these applications.
The capacitive SMD humidity sensor of series KFS fulfills the requirements in terms of quality and also price in special measurements. The sensor is the latest development based on the proven, wired up type KFS140 and is a once again optimised version in layer construction. The high performance polymer used in this sensor, offers outstanding performance data and is stable against chemical effects as well as dew formation. This results in long time stability for durable applications. Due to its wide measuring range of 0 to 100 % RH and fast conversion behaviour, the component is suitable for a large variety of applications. Moreover, owing to its low temperature drift and less linearity error, costly compensation circuits are not required for most of the applications. The high nominal capacitance (150 pF) and considerably steep characteristics simplifies the circuit and facilitates a stable evaluation electronics.
The application areas for this component are versatile. Besides automotive applications, it can be used in various other areas, for example some of the typical application areas are building instrumentation, meteorological instruments or air regulation for sanitary rooms.
